Childminder registration process

The Department for Education is keen to hear from GPs and other regulated healthcare professionals on their consultation proposal to improve the childminder registration process. As part of registration checks, Ofsted and childminder agencies (CMAs) must assess whether an applicant has any health issues that could impact their suitability to care for children by asking the applicant to complete a health declaration form which is then verified by the applicant’s GP. In its consultation, the Department is asking for views on expanding the range of regulated healthcare professionals within a GP surgery who can complete checks to include nurses, occupational therapists, pharmacists, and paramedics.
