Children’s commissioner’s school census

This national census of school leaders reveals concerns about children’s lives beyond the classroom, as schools struggle to fill gaps in support without the backing of wider services. The data provides a picture of how schools are supporting their pupils’ additional needs far beyond those within the formally recognised SEND system: from housing and health challenges, to having a parent in prison, to dealing with bereavement and caring responsibilities.
