Digital services in GP practices – preventing discrimination

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) have published new advice to help GP practices embed equality considerations in the NHS services they provide, specifically around guarding against the digital exclusion of patients. Digitisation is helping NHS GPs to provide vital services in their communities, but not everyone can access digital services. The EHRC wants to help practices make decisions about their digitalisation with their Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) responsibilities in mind. The PSED is a legal requirement to have due regard to three aims in everyday decision and policy-making. The PSED applies to all GP practices that deliver NHS services. This information explains when it applies and other important information to help advance and promote equality in general practice.
