General practice workforce

This report reveals the extent of GP unemployment in England, how practices need to hire more staff but don’t have the funding or the space, how some GPs are travelling across the UK to get work, and how practice nurses fear they are having to train the groups of staff who will replace them. The report explores what is being done to attempt to solve the crisis at an NHS-wide level, and provides specific recommendations for what the government needs to do urgently to improve the workforce problems.
