Medical training review recommendations
The government’s Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty, and the former National Medical Director at NHS England, Professor Stephen Powis, led the Medical Training Review to understand challenges and identify areas for improvements. The engagement exercise generated over 8,000 responses, including more than 6,000 from resident doctors. Recommendations include that training should be more flexible, build on excellence beyond formal training routes, address training bottlenecks and ensure doctors at every stage of training feel valued.
