NHS hypertension case finding service

The NHS hypertension case finding service specification has been updated to include:

  • Clarification that patients can access the service once every five years
  • Updates to the eligibility criteria regarding which patients may be referred into the service by general practice teams
  • Emphasis on the average wake-time ABPM reading as the key measure to share with general practitioners, as this supports the diagnostic process
  • Inclusion of additional guidance relating to off-site arrangements

The new specification will come into effect from 3 September 2026. The updated service specification has been published on NHS England’s website, allowing community pharmacy teams to prepare for the service changes. The current service specification will be available on the NHSBSA website and will remain in place until 3 September 2026.
