The aim of this report is to develop a better understanding of the make-up of the NHS finance function and how it has changed over time to help understand the qualifications, career path, morale and development needs of NHS finance staff. Since the last census in 2022, there has been minimal change in the number of core NHS organisations. Overall, NHS finance staff numbers have remained fairly stable, with an overall 2% increase in NHS finance staff headcount.
