Understanding the needs of the population – oral health and eye care

Integrated care boards (ICBs) are developing their skills and capability to undertake population health needs assessments and commission services based on these needs.  Some areas need specific attention, and these include the areas of oral health and eye care. The commissioning of dental services and eye care services needs to be appropriately targeted to priorities identified through needs assessments. Ways to secure services, for example, for dental services, using flexible commissioning, or personal dental services contracts as well as the general dental services contract can then be considered.
